Happy New Year!

We made a quick video for ya'll before we go out tonight. Everybody have fun and stay safe!

Music Monday 12.31.12 - Marlow

We've featured Marlow before on the site when he released his video for South Beach Flow wearing the London Zhiloh Tee. He recently contacted us again with some of his new work and we decided to feature him this week on the site. Read on to learn more about him and watch some of his music videos.

Marlow, aka HollyWoodLow, born Sha'Quan Williams, was raised in the metropolitan area of D.C, Maryland, and Virginia his entire life. He was raised by his mother who was a single parent, and they struggled early on in their life, even having to move to various shelters in the area. Once Marlow and his mom got some stability, and he started to mature, he grew an exceptional interest in music. Always knowing how to express himself through drawing, and creating stories, Marlow saw music as a way to express himself in a way that was more direct and therapeutic. When Marlow. entered high school, he decided to really give music a shot. His first recorded song, "Its Nuffin" was shelved however due to the content of the music, which wasn't really true to who Marlow was. So he decided to take a break from the music until his 11th grade year once he had his son, Elijah. He started out from ground zero, by recording songs on his computer for his own enjoyment and friends. It wasn't until he linked up with fellow cousin OverTyme and label Nu-Phase records, where he would reunite with the studio, and really dive into the music industry. During his run with OverTyme they recorded songs with Kurtis Blow, performed at the Zanzibar, Hogates, Marion Barry's Annual Ward events, various high schools and much more. Though things were looking exceptionally well at first, Marlow didn't see his future with the label, so he decided to leave and take another break with the industry. It wasn't until a fellow classmate of his by the name of TroyBoy, told him he wanted to rap with him. Not taking it serious at first, Marlow brushed it off, but TroyBoy was determined so in turn they recorded 'Ridin In My Car', a throwaway song that wasn't meant to be serious that caught fire quick. They then decided to create a group by the name of HD, and eventually crafted a mixtape by the name of 'Loyalty B4 Royalty' which was released to good to mixed reviews. The success of the mixtape, gave the two a good buzz to start off with. Despite the success however the group broke up for personal reasons, though the two are on good terms to this day. Marlow has since started his new organization and movement, ‘PCELVE’ directing his own videos, released his first single "Set For Life" and has began working on his debut project, Peace.Love.WAR. There is no question that Marlow won't be taking any breaks from music anytime soon. When asked about why he wanted to pursue music Marlow simply stated: "It's not about the money, cars, clothes, women, or any of that, it's about getting out a message, and truly expressing the thoughts, and emotions I have to the outside people, my other methods of expressing myself have been deemed as "crazy" and I truly feel this is the only way I can express myself, I truly love music, and feel that I was destined to do this, so I'm basically fulfilling my destiny, I am SUPPOSED to do this..."

throwin DIFFERENT shade

I am the definition of different
I ran before I walked
I dress in mixed patterns
I "like" seldom and "love" often
I bear scars from past and the future
I am different
Your eyes criticize what is unique and recognize what needs not be found
Don't judge those that you aspire to become
We are different
We walk in packs, facing the world and its dangers together, no dolo
We come together even when times are great, no solo
Don't attack our craft
Eccentricity is a choice, not a conviction
I choose to be unlike you, to mix apples and oranges, to combine stripes and spots
This is who I am and this is what we stand for.
We are the definition of different...and we're proud to stick out like sore thumbs.
All Shade ✊

Music Monday 12.24.12 - Ras Nebyu

Ras Nebyu is an MC born and raised in Uptown Washington, DC, to an African American mother and an Ethiopian father.  Exposed to Roots Reggae at very early age, listening to everything from Peter Tosh to Culture. Nebyu’s love for music quickly became an infatuation.  Shortly after Nebyu started to write lyrics of his own, the older he grew the more his music reflected his Rastafarian/Pan-Africanist upbringing.  With his influences ranging from a wide variety of MCs from Nas to Gucci Mane, Ras Nebyu manages to bridge the gap between socially conscious content and leisure listening without compromising his lyricals.  He is the self proclaimed "starting point guard of the Washington Slizzards", a group of young talented individuals who are involved in several creative indevors from music to clothing.  With two music videos (Capital of Hate & Washington Slizzards) under his belt, Nebyu is preparing to release his 2nd EP "Babylon’s Most Wanted".  Slated to release the day after Christmas, this EP is a collection of songs dealing with life for a young black male in Washington, DC from the perspective of an Uptown Ethiopian Rasta.  His first mixtape "Kennedy Street Teachings" is available at www.rasnebyu.bandcamp.com . Feel free to check out more music from Ras Nebyu and the Washington Slizzards on youtube.

Below you can check out one of his music videos.

He's also throwing a mix tape release party Friday December 28th!

Chanel Eater - Nightmare Before Christmas

I've been contacting Chanel Eater back and forth for the last couple of weeks about linking up and doing some work. For those of you not familiar with who she is she has a very interesting series on YouTube called Wake Up that you should go check out right now. Last night Chanel Eater came by the UxU Lab to share a new spoken word piece she did not get to do at an event recently for various reasons so I jumped at the chance to record on put it on our site. It's entitled Nightmare Before Christmas and it highlights some of the things wrong with the Holiday coming up in the next two days. Very enlightening and thought provoking. View the video down below.

PSA: UNCNTMPRY Box Logo Pictures.

If you follow us on Instagram then you know well of the Box Logo pictures that we post. I got a comment on one of them saying that the picture was stolen from Tumblr and blah blah blah. So I'd I thought I would explain the point of the Box Logo pictures. Firstly, most of the pictures are sent to us via email (If you'd like to send us something it's uxudmv@gmail.com) including fans wearing shirts, sticker sightings, hate email, and all kinds of other stuff. Secondly, the box logo photos aren't meant to be original works of art and in no way do we mean to imply they are made by us. The point is to show the interest of the people who run this brand and fans alike. It's also a good way to kill time when were bored. If you disagree, honestly we could care less. They make us laugh and remind us of some of the cool pictures that were on Tumblr and around the internet years ago. If you feel that strongly about it the unfollow button is there for you to click. I look forward to see what else you guys send in!

Also, check out the UNCNTMPRY page to find out what it actually means!

Today we bring you our photo shoot and interview with the lovely Brittani Taylor.

UxU: So tell us a little about yourself.

BT: My name is Brittani Taylor. 20 years old, 5'4", 105 lbs.  I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but as a Military brat of both divorce parents I have lived all over the United states; ATL, Cali, SC, NC, MIA, NY,as well as mexico, Ecuador and Japan. I am Ecuadorian and African American born to a family of 9 brothers and 2 sisters. I am a current student at UNCG, double majoring in Art Education and Spanish and minoring in Dance. I have also attended the Art institute of NY and Indianapolis and NCCU. I am a Model, painter, sculptress, dancer, singer, and I love to act, paint nails and do hair.

UxU: What kind of modeling do you do?

BT: So far I have done catalog and web based modeling for promotion. I have also done swim-ware, lingerie, and alternative. My most recent works depicts life-style modeling, implied nude and glamour. My dream is to become a VS model and do some couture walk way modeling.

UxU: How did you get started in modeling and how long have you been doing so?

BT: I have been modeling for 4yrs now. I took up modeling as a minor while attending The Art institute of NY in 2009. Since then I have been working with modeling agencies, on and off, such as John Casablanca and Talented Rising Photographers to further my modeling career. At first modeling was just another way I could exercise my creative acting and photogenic talents but now it has grown into a passion of mine.

UxU: What kind of guy are you most attracted to?

BT: I am most attracted to a gentlemen. A guy that has a respective since of humor, smart, stylish, passionate, talented, and is ambitious. I am a sucker for tall guys, curly hair and a gorgeous smile. Just someone I can have a great time with and betters me as a person. And most importantly someone who can Handel all of me ;-) .

UxU: Who would win in a fight between a ninja and a robot?

BT: Ninja! Robots are too stiff. a Ninja would be more flexible and just dodge and flip all around to avoid any of the robots weapons. Plus Ninjas are cool!

UxU: Can't argue with that.

UxU: How much do you love UxU?

BT: I loooooove UxU! The concept alone, be yourself, be different is so inspiring. I love being an individual and a leader. I think everyone should dare to be different. I am also an artist myself, so to see art work come to life on clothing is amazingly talented. UXU clothing line is empowering creating innovators and encouraging everyone, from underdogs to the go-to-guy. I am definitely down for the UxU movement.

UxU: Great answer.

UxU: What are some of your upcoming projects?

BT: I like to keep my projects on the down low merely because I like to hit my fans with a BANG! You never know what's coming next when your dealing with Brittani Taylor and I love it that way. I am very open minded and I love for all my work to be Inspiring. One things you can be on the look out for is Animals and Danger. My motto is Sweet Insanity; mixing beauty, uniqueness, talent and ambition.
