Music Monday 4.15.13 District Dre

Good morning UxU fans. Here we are again with another riveting DMV artist, District Dre.

His current project, The Sixth Man, is a showcase of his skills. Lyricism and flow is what District Dre consistently provides for his fans. These skills are beyond the expertise of a normal rapper. You can tell that his craft has everything…he has that “it” factor. This mixtape is no joke and it shows a distinct skill level that many rappers have a hard time to grasp.

The Sixth Man refers to metaphorically getting off the bench and coming into the game with a complete hunger for success.

District Dre also has a body of work that shows his dedication to his music. He has three mixtapes: The Strategy, The Strategy Vol. 2, and The Strategy Vol. 3. His work ethic is relentless as he continues to grind on his craft and become one of the best in the DMV to make it in this hip hop game.

District Dre was greatly influenced by his relative and fellow rapper Young Fresh. His lyrical influence was based on rappers he grew up on such as Jay Z and Eminem. Currently, Drake and Big Sean can be heard booming through his headphones.

This DMV rapper takes his craftsmanship very serious. His flow is his own. You can tell that he has taken his time to mold his own sound and maintain originality.

"At the end of the day you need to sound like you’re not like everyone else. That's how you stay relevant," he said.

District Dre defines his style as versatile. From his “turnt up” flow over hype beats to his soul hitting messages on smooth beats. He can do it all. The song “Life” from his project The Strategy Vol. 3 displays those important messages on a seamless beat. He hopes that his current project The Sixth Man will finally increase his buzz. He wants to be able to continue blessing the streets with that much needed music.

His next mixtape is due to drop this summer. This on-edge anticipation is definitely what the people need this summer. The UxU team can't wait for it to drop.

District Dre is on twitter @DistrictDre202 and on IG @DistrictDre. Also, subscribe to his YouTube channel: DistrictDreDC. Download his mixtape The Sixth Man other previous projects at datpiff.com.

Make sure you follow the team on Twitter and IG @uxudmv ASAP! Be sure to cop some gear for the spring season and be on the lookout for coming sales. You know you want it!

Remember: You are only unique if you stand out as individual... Why fit in? That's so boring. Be Uncontemporary.

Music Monday 4.8.13 Joey Phantom

Front Cover

Good morning UxU fans. We got another one!

This artist reps his New Orleans roots, but currently resides in the DMV. He goes by the name of Joey Phantom.

His most recent project, I Am What I Am is a self-proclamation. He is a product of what he has endured, but that is not the end of his story. This album is a look into his life.

Phantom’s lyrics are honest and his entire flow emanates a cool vibe. The beats on his mixtape are definitely something to chill and ride to. His music is a direct reflection of who he has become and why.

“I’m really calm,” he said. “When you rap to calm beats, you can really hear yourself and you can really see things and put them into perspective.”

Phantom listens to more old school Hip Hop than anything else, and he appreciates the first heavyweights. He listens to a lot of Outkast, Biggie, Nas, Scarface, Jay-Z, and the list goes on. He even credits the late Soulja Slim as a direct influence to his style and flow. Although he does listen to A$AP, Ace Hood and a few others, old school is where he tends to float back to for inspiration.

“I’m a rapper,” Phantom said. “You can’t be out here listening to everybody’s songs because you don’t want to sound like them. I want to sound like one of those guys.”

Messages and the sound of Hip Hop are completely different nowadays. Phantom wants to bring back the old school vibe to Hip Hop. He believes that music now is completely different and doesn’t reflect the same passion and honesty from its beginnings. He wants to revamp it, but still maintain its authenticity.

“Music is twisting and turning,” he said. “It’s going everywhere. You gotta grab hold of it and pull some of it your way.”

Phantom defines his style as versatile, but he doesn’t want his music to reflect Gangsta Rap. He knows that all eyes are on him, and he wants to lead by example. Phantom believes that youth are a huge following in Hip Hop and he wants to help influence them positively.

“It’s all about your image,” he said. “You gotta get people to follow you and believe in you. All it is is influencing the youth, and you gotta influence them the right way. I have to show people that there’s more to life.”

He hopes that one day he’ll be able to give back to his community in a way that will help them prosper. Phantom says that “you can’t eat and watch everyone else starve.” It’s important to know where you came from and not leave those that helped you behind.

Here are some other things we asked Phantom:

Favorite track on his mixtape: “Hallucination”à make sure you check it out!!

Direct influence on his life currently: Jay-Z…admires his grind, come-up, and humble beginnings

Future collabs, dead or alive: Tupac, Biggie, and Soulja Slim

Currently listening to: Lil’ Wayne, Jay-Z, and Nas

His second project is in the works, so be on the lookout for it within the next few months. Phantom says that this one will be stronger and very different. His style changes often. Until then, download I Am What I Am on DatPiff.com sooner than later.

Joey Phantom is on Twitter and InstaGram, so go him some love ASAP @JoeyPhantom504. Also, go check out some of our other Music Monday artists and cop some gear at www.uxudmv.com. Follow us on Twitter and InstaGram @uxudmv.

‘Til next week, be unique and don’t settle for less. Be Uncontemporary.

Music Monday 4.1.13 Breeze

Happy Easter to all.

We have another great talented artist bursting through the hip hop scene, and he goes by the name Breeze.  Breeze is beyond a shadow of a doubt one of the craziest lyricists out right now. He is a junior at North Carolina A&T and a JOMC broadcast production major . Breeze’s future plans are to have and own a radio station.

He was first introduced to the music game by being around his older brother who had a successful music group growing up. He was always exposed to music, but he was in love with the sound of it. Breeze loved how he could express himself through the music and it quickly became a hobby.

His new mixtape, Money Making Mission, is hot and the plans for mixtape are self explanatory. Breeze wants the people to hear him for who he is, and the hunger he’s coming with. On his mixtape, he describes the everyday hustle of a young man on a mission to get paid and become successful. It’s about LOYALTY, and he does it for his family. His intentions are ultimately for people to hear the lyrical content in his music, not just the catchy beats and hooks. This project is all about Breeze revealing himself. He wants to make sure that the music he creates is something all people can relate to, especially those that are on a constant grind. Breeze has worked with Dee Money, Mets Inferno, Lee, and Ryan Hunt on this project, but the list goes on. He has incorporated some of Mets Inferno’s ideas on a few tracks on his mixtape. The music has a smooth flow with hard beats. Ya’ll definitely need to check him out!

As far as Hip Hop is concerned, Breeze believes that it is in a tough spot right now. It has gone too mainstream and the messages within the music are nowhere to be found.

“Hip Hop right now is a little shaky,” Breeze said. “It seems now that everybody is just in it for the money and not the actual music. It's just a lot of trendy rap out right now.”

Hopefully there’ll be some dope artists including Breeze that can shake the game up. Maybe even with his track “Better Days,” which happens to be his favorite song on his project right now. We asked why, but all Breeze could tell us was, “Listen to it and you'll see why." It does have a pretty good flow to it and the message is legit. I’ll let ya’ll be the judge of that.

Breeze has been compared to Mase, who also has that chill vibe,  nice flow, and crazy delivery .
"He had the street cred and ladies,” Breeze commented. “[Mase] reminds me of myself."

Breeze wants to create a name for himself in the music world. Fame isn’t the focus on his agenda, but he’ll take it if it comes. In the end, music is just something he loves and he does it to express himself. Everything else that comes with it is a bonus.

“The money is a plus, but I do it for the fans,” Breeze said. “They are the ones who will purchase your music.”

If Breeze could collaborate with anybody it would be with Kanye West. He sees him as a “musical genius.”. He would also want do some work with J. Cole since he supports North Carolina, and Drake. He thinks that Drake is one of the most talented artists out at the moment .He’s also been checking out a lot of new artists including Joey Badass, Young Scooter , and Future.

Be on the lookout for his future projects that will drop this summer. Follow him on Twitter and InstaGram @breeze919. While you’re at it, follow us on Twitter and InstaGram @uxudmv. Also check out our website for more Music Monday artists and to cop some UxU gear. Spring is officially here!

Remember UxU followers… be who you are, no matter what. That's truly dope.

Music Monday 3.25.13 Autumn LaBella

Good morning to all of our fans out there. I hope that everybody is attempting to stay warm in this fluke spring weather!!

Despite the snow, it is our job to bring you the realness for the season. We have a new artist that is burning up the area right now.

Two words. Autumn LaBella, Two dreams. One person. Many talents.

Get hip! This 19 year-old femcee/songstress is truly one of a kind. She is a sophomore at Old Dominion University, majoring in Recreational & Tourism Studies with a dream of providing a full quality life to disabled and emotionally handicapped individuals. Baby girl got gifts!

Autumn’s newest project, Reign Check, is raw and completely honest. Initially created for her ears only, this mixtape transformed into a message. Autumn wanted this to be a wake-up call for all those that claim to be making good music. She wanted people to realize where Hip Hop is today and how the front runners in the music industry achieved greatness in the first place.

“The raw passion and talent that were present in the 60’s-90 is gone,” LaBella says. “The love that everybody claims they have for music, Hip Hop in general is gone. The hunger is gone.”

The entire vibe for Reign Check is a completely mellow one. Autumn says that her project is meant to define her. It’s her own personal diary and she wants her fans to take away a message from her music. She wants them to not only listen to it, but feel it. That’s the point of good music.

LaBella has defined her own genre of music as Neo-Hip Hop. She doesn’t’ see herself as an R&B artist although she loves the music that it produces. She characterizes her voice as one with a softer and more unique tone in comparison with a bellowing and fluid one. The sound of her voice is what helps fans to be captivated by her words. Her voice is haunting and very clear. LaBella’s sound is definitely something new for underground Hip Hop, but it will only amplify the value. She aspires to be different, and I can completely vouch for that.

Inner Intro - Autumn Labella from Simone McPhail on Vimeo.

As a lyricist and poet, LaBella does have a major appreciation for artists with the same creativity and drive. She’s listening to a lot of Dom Kennedy, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP, and Freddy Gibbs. Her favorites of all time include Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Rah Digga, Foxy Brown, and the list goes on. I have to say that her list is rather impressive. She’s also been compared to Lauryn Hill, Eve, and Foxy Brown with a twist of Brandy, but I’ll let you guys decide for yourself.

LaBella looks up to the greats and she acknowledges them as her influences. From Elton John to 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar to Bob Marley, Biggie to Earth Wind & Fire, and so forth. She takes from them all and uses them to propel her craft. If she could collab with anybody on a project, it would literally have to depend on the day. She loves them all, but her top picks would include Jay-Z, Common, Freddy Gibbs, and Flatbush Zombies. Let’s just say that she has an interesting range.

Be on the lookout for future projects from Autumn. Her next mixtape should be dropping in mid-April. The exact date is up in the air at this point, but be ready for GREATNESS. Expect big things from this one, UxU fans. I have a feeling that you won’t be disappointed. Also, check out her track "Mr. Answers" preceding her new project to get a feel of it early.

You can follow Autumn LaBella on Twitter and InstaGram @AutumnLaBella and download her mixtape on Bandcamp at http://autumnlabella.bandcamp.com/album/reign-check. Music Monday 3.18.13 C. Pitt

Cheers to Music Monday!

Sorry for the delay UxU fans, but we are finally back with some crazy fresh talent. He happens to go by the name C. Pitt. This fresh lyricist reps Greensboro, S.C. and we had a chance to talk with him about his new mixtape and the current state of Hip Hop.

C. Pitt’s most recent project is his mixtape The Pitt Stop. His goal on this project is to reach people with message that we can all achieve our dreams despite the long journey. C. Pitt wants to evoke a change in the community and encourage listeners to start making positive gains. This mixtape definitely displays his craftsmanship as a lyricist and plays foreground to laid-back tracks. Everyone needs to download this mixtape because these beats are perfect to ride to in the coming season. They are almost reminiscent of an old school flow. However, don’t be fooled by the chill rhythms within his music. This emcee definitely has something to say. His lyricism and messages are critical aspects of his project.

C Pitt - Over My Dead Body Cover - Directed By Raza-Ry from Raza Ry on Vimeo.

As a lyricist, C.Pitt respects artists with the same craft. He listens to Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Kendrick Lamar, and some Tupac, but the list goes on. What these artists all have in common is a message. They all have something to talk about and they all relate their messages to their own struggles. This is what Hip Hop once was and can continue to be with the right amount of creativity and realness.

It‘s obvious that Hip Hop is at a standstill right now, but it is far from over. C. Pitt believes that the music is at a corrupt state. He says that rappers nowadays have to choose between money or morals because there is no in-between. Hip Hop is not dead, but C. Pitt hopes to help revitalize it.

Here are some other interesting questions we asked:

Future collabs, dead or alive: Jadakiss, Marvin Gaye, and Big Pun

Any new mixtapes/projects: be on the lookout!

C. Pitt is IG and Twitter official, so make sure you follow him @C_Pitt !! Also, check out more of UxU, cop some gear for the spring, and read up on some other dope artists on our site www.uxudmv.com. Follow us on Twitter and InstaGram @UXUDMV.

Stay unique and maintain your own identity. Be Uncontemporary.

Music Monday 2.18.13 Evan Trent a.k.a. E. Trent

Up-and-coming artist E. Trent is storming the scene with his creative blend of R&B and Hip-Hop. This 24-year-old Virginia native hopes to inspire others with his beats and his bars. The UxU team had a chance to catch up with him to discuss his music and his grind.

Trent’s love for music and art started at an early age. Before he was writing ciphers, he was an artist and even began classes at the Art Institute of Washington. However, he found his way to the studio and incorporated pen and paper in a different craft. Since then, it’s been history.

As a singer, rapper, and songwriter, E. Trent values the importance of great lyricism and makes it a point to emphasize it within his own lyrics. He looks up to the artists Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Biggie for their words and creativity in their music.

His mixtape Let Inspiration Find Everyone (L.I.F.E.) is Trent’s introduction to the world. His lyrics are honest, original, and play the foreground to an array of laid-back beats. Trent’s hard work and perfectionism limits the amount of singles he releases at a time, but all of them are gold! Don’t expect too much from this artist anytime soon. He is a firm believer that greatness can never be rushed. Until then, listen and download Let Inspiration Find Everyone (L.I.F.E.) at http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/e-trent-l-i-f-e-mixtape.64764.html.

E. Trent will be performing March 2, 2013 in D.C. at the Turntable Restaurant & Disco. If you are in the DMV area, definitely check him out and show some love. He’s also on InstaGram and Twitter UxU fans, so #follow #follow #follow ASAP.

IG: @clark_trent
Twitter: @etrent23

Make sure you guys check out the UxU page at uxudmv.com for more artist updates, videos, and new gear. Spring will soon be upon us, so keep a look out for some exclusives! Also, follow us on Twitter and InstaGram @uxudmv. ‘Til then, be yourself and nobody else. Originality is always the best format. Be Unique!

2/11/13

Music Monday 2.11.13 Ryan Daley a.k.a. Daley

Here is another one UxU fans! We want to bring to your attention another DMV hip-hop artist, Daley. We had a chance to sit down with him and talk about his influences and love for music.

This 19 year old DC native is currently a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University. His academic focus is honed in on his future aspiration of becoming the next Christopher Nolan, aside from conquering the music world. Daley’s love for creativity in movies and their compelling plots inspire his own stories within his music.

Interesting enough, music started out as hobby for him. However, Daley has grown to love it more and more as he continues to perfect his craft. Daley’s lyrical style is honest and inspirational. The storytelling within his music and his admiration for strong lyricism is inspired by artists like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. But growing up, he listened and looked up to the rapper Nelly. He would love to collaborate with him in the future. Right now, Chief Keef, Drake, Kendrick and a little dub step are booming out of his headphones.

Daley’s mixtape Road 2 Stardom shows the awareness that he is trying to reintroduce to the hip-hop world. Daley wants his music to touch the hearts of people worldwide so that they can be aware of the issues in the ghettos. His music caters to the youth as he tries to guide them in the right ways to go about life. His single “Live Life Like” explains how making the right decisions in life are important and will definitely inspire you to do the same.

Listen to and download Road 2 Stardom online at http://indy.livemixtapes.com/mixtapes/20325/daley-road-2-stardom.html. His single and a few of his other favorites are included in the mixtape, so make sure you check ‘em out!

Daley is on InstaGram and Twitter!! Follow him ASAP @theeverydaystar and follow UxU @uxudmv to check out more Music Monday artists for the week.

All UxU fans out there, expect to see another mixtape to drop this summer. Be on the lookout for Daley’s music to hit the web soon! Get hip! Remember…Be yourself and Be different!

Music Monday 2.4.13 Colby Moore a.k.a. C.A.M.

We got another good one for y'all today UxU fans. We want to bring to your attention a DMV R&B artist, Colby Moore aka C.A.M. We had a chance to sit down with him and discuss his love for music and his influences.

Colby has a pure, raw sound that he likes to describe as “spacey.” He has profound lyrics that have a more “upfront and in your face style” and a talent that is unprecedented. Growing up, he listened to original R&B legends such as Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross. C.A.M. has been introduced to all types of music throughout his life ranging from classical Mozart to the Rolling Stones. However, he does have an appreciation for some of R&B’s modern styled music. C.A.M. says that artists including The Weekend, Miguel, and Frank Ocean would be booming out of his headphones. He also listens to a bit of Dru Hill, BJ the Chicago Kid, J. Gourdine, and Wale.

Colby’s new mixtape “Back to the C.A.M Era” shows his versatility and lyrical stretch as an artist. Listening to the mixtape, it is obvious that he is attempting to revitalize the soul in R&B. When asked what his favorite song on the mixtape is, Colby says it would have to the song titled “Lost” because that is what he feels is the state of today’s R&B.  He believes that R&B should go back to its pure sound rather than continuing to mainstream. Colby also says that if the world were perfect, the two artists he would love to do collaborations with, dead or alive, would have to be Rick James and Luther Vandross. That would be his dream.

For all of the UxU fans out there, expect to see another of C.A.M.’s mixtape by the summertime. But keep a look-out for his singles that will begin to drop periodically until then. Get hip! Listen to some of his singles from his SoundCloud and his Mixtape below. Download his mixtape “Back to the C.A.M Era”  on DatPiff.com HERE. He’s on Instagram too you guys! Follow him on IG @colbymoore_.

Music Monday 1.21.13 TheeBlackMonroe

Presented here is the background of an up in coming Female MC known as TheeBlackMonroe. TheeBlackMonroe is bringing a fresh new urban sound with a twist of the 90’s vibe and flow to the game. Out of Virginia, TheeBlackMonroe is highly influenced by New York Hip-Hop, which is very apparent in her unique sound and flow. Most would describe her voice of a smooth and capturing tone, which only compliments her actual appearance. The combination grasps listeners because they are shocked to find one with her elegance flowing so hardcore yet confident in delivery. Hip-Hop listeners commonly note the sound combination of Lil Kim and Foxy Brown creating her flow. TheeBlackMonroe finds those remarks with much gratification; however, she wants to capture and represent her own sound in which she states fans will soon hear this spring in the release of her first mix-tape titled: “GXLDXN CLVSSXX”.

TheeBlackMonroe is very new to this rap game just beginning her career this past fall of 2012; however, she has always had a passion and love for Hip-Hop entirely. She hopes as a Female MC that her sound will bring back the appreciation for real lyrical Hip-Hop as it was in the 90’s. She is inspired by Hip-Hop legends and notes some of her favorite rappers to be of; Biggie Smalls, Big L, Lil Kim, Andre 3000, Nas, Fabulous, and Q-Tip. She has a passion for making real Hip-Hop that people can vibe, party, and just relax to. She just wants to get her voice out for all to tune in and simply listen.

TheeBlackMonroe’s birth name is Alexis Hunt. Norfolk, Virginia is her birthplace sharing the same grounds as rapper Pusha T. After years of being infatuated by the Hip-Hop genre and culture, TheeBlackMonroe has decided to put her voice in the game. She just wants to share her talents and in-depth knowledge with her love for Hip-Hop. Discovered by Harlem’s up in coming artist Young Tone over the website soundcloud, TheeBlackMonroe has recently joined his team Fleet-O in New York. She there recorded the first cuts of her tracks: “They Betta Know Us” & “Neva Slippin” which can be found on YouTube and Soundcloud; artist: TheeBlackMonroe. Now under management in Manhattan under Young Tone’s manager, TheeBlackMonroe predicts a big come up and surprise awakening in this Hip-Hop industry for 2013.

TheeBlackMonroe has a legit passion for Hip-Hop entirely and music in general. From a life of hardships though only 19 years young, she has been through a lot and hopes with music to better her self, also helping and encouraging others that anything is possible with determination and drive. TheeBlackMonroe is ready to make her mark in the game with her style & grace, and from there sustain by her “Lyrical douches.” She is very confident in her work and knows that if you just take the time to listen, you will love her work. She puts her heart and soul into music, nothing she loves more…and from here on out, she wants all listeners to Enjoy.

Check out some of her tracks below.
